Bangkok United squandered a two-goal advantage to let visiting Khon Kaen United salvage a 2-2 draw in a Thai League 1 battle on Sunday night.

The result is a major blow to the Angels hopes of winning their maiden league crown as they now trail leaders Buriram United by seven points with only three matches left this season.

The hosts went ahead following a 27th-minute strike by Thossawat Limwannasatien and Mahmoud Eid made it 2-0 in the 61st minute. Thawin Butsombut and Brenner Alves scored later in the second half to earn a point for Khon Kaen.

Bangkok United coach Totchtawan Sripan admitted after the match that his team's chances of claiming the title had evaporated.

"There are three matches left and in theory we can still win the league, so we are going to fight for it," he said.

"We have been wasting the chances we have been getting and are paying the price for those misses."

Meanwhile, Port had goals from Barros Tardeli (six) and Pathompol Charoenrattanapirom (31) to defeat struggling Chonburi 2-0 on Sunday night.

PT Prachuap improved their chances of survival in the top flight with a 2-0 victory over Lamphun Warriors.
