SOFTWARE COMPETITION
The Software Industry Promotion Association (Sipa) is accepting entries for the Thailand ICT Awards 2008 (Ticta) with the hope that the top entry will win the regional prize in the Asia Pacific ICT Alliance (Apicta) Awards, to be held in Indonesia later in the year.
Organised by the Ministry of ICT, Sipa and the Association of Thai ICT Industry (ATCI), the national software contest is open to entrepreneurs, programmers and university students, and will be divided into 15 classes.
Dr Rungruang Limchoopatipa, president of Sipa, said the awards should boost competitiveness in the Thai software industry, increase its economic value and enable the country to earn more software revenue.
ATCI secretary Sutee Satanasathaporn said applicants could be organisations, agencies or individuals who develop software for use within an organisation or for distribution, and to qualify, the organisation must have more than 49 per cent Thai shareholders. Each contestant can enter up to three applications, but no more than two in each class. The judges would use the same criteria as in the regional contest, and the winner of each class would be sponsored to participate in the Apicta awards. Sutee invited entrepreneurs, software developers, students and university students to submit "quality and interesting work" as entries.
Thailand has received the second highest number of awards in previous Apicta competitions, with three first prizes and three runner-up awards. The deadline for entries is July 15.
