TONY WALTHAM
User groups are a resource that dates back to the origins of computing. It's fair to say that they peaked in the '90s before many of them - including the Bangkok User Group or BUG, formed by the merger of the CP/M Group and the 6502 Group - went virtual and disbanded after the Internet became the channel for much of the support its members were looking for.
So, I was a little surprised to learn that Thailand has a very active Adobe user group called Thai Adobe User (http://www.thaiadobeuser.com) - a community of over 2,500 members that organises seminars and meetings. I met the group's manager, Kajorn Bhirakit, and I will bring readers more details of the group's activities in Database in a week or two, but today I want to draw attention to the Thai Adobe Users' web site and web board which will help bring those who read Thai up to speed on various activities around Adobe's many products that include Creative Suite, Photoshop and Acrobat. The site also provides links to the related industries of graphics design, colour separation and publishing, as well as to those supporting Mac users, while the web board has literally thousands of topics and over 10,000 responses. These are in Thai, but there's an affiliated English board at http://www.indesignthai.com, although there are not nearly as many users or posts there. You'll need to register to participate (which is free), and this should make you eligible to get a 20 per cent discount on Adobe Press books.
