Talk about acne

Dr Nantapat Supapannachart

Our skin, especially the face, needs to be cleansed, fed and nurtured. Specially if you suffer from acne, the care and control of acne plays a vital role. Let's find out what are the main causes of acne, ways to cure and even prevent it.

Main causes

Sometimes pimples can occur due to hormonal changes and the use of too much sun block or moisturiser. Many people use plenty of creams and lotions to prevent the skin from ageing. However, too much moisturiser or sun block can clog your pores, which may result in an acne breakout.

Curing acne

Each individual's skin and problems are different. For example, some patients have more acne that others. Some never experience acne but have blemishes.

We all need different ways to treat acne.

However, if you've got a minor acne problem, you may consider microdermabrasion treatment.

First, it helps unclog your pores. Second, it stimulates the development of new skin. Since the treatment helps stimulate new skin turnover, it also improves collagen.

How to prevent acne from flaring up again?

If your skin is young, it's prone to becoming oily. Try not to use too an oil-based cream, sun block or other cosmetics.

If your skin is very dry, put some oil on the skin. If clogging of the pores still persists, seek medical help.

How much is too much moisturiser?

A lot of people tend to over-wash their face. This leaves the skin too dry, and this leads to too much moisturiser.

If your face is still greasy and oily two hours after it has been moisturised, then that's too much moisturising.

Choose an SPF-based moisturiser, instead of an oil-based one.

Other recommendations

Eat well, sleep well and try to be in good mood. Also try to avoid drinking and smoking.
