A child's room should channel positive energies
SAIKARN CHANAPAISAL
According to the Chinese beliefs, feng shui, along with time of birth and fate, can have impacts on the education of your child. Arrangements of a child's bedroom can help channel the positive energy flow to the child who is able to absorb the energy like a chargeable battery.
On a side note, the Chinese believe that children younger than 25 years old do not have their own fate, but rather share the fate of their parents. This means that wealthy parents will be able to provide their children happiness and comfort, while the poorer families do not have the same luxury and the children may have to work to help their parents. The children have their own fate when they have finished their education and start a career.
The arrangements of the house according to feng shui principles have two considerations - the direction of the study area and the arrangement of the study desk.
The child should be provided a proper corner that he can channel the positive energy for reading activities. Typically, this corner is the Northeast, although another alternate corner may be identified through an advanced analysis. Also consider the annual rotation of the stars, which in the year of 2008 has fallen on the Northeast.
In order to identify the directions, stand in the middle of the house and use the compass. The compass will always show the North. Then, use the following chart to identify the rest of the directions.
After you have identified the directions, arrange a room or a corner in the Northeast as the study area. If this is not possible as the Northeast corner of the house has already been used for another function, you may instead place the study desk in the Northeast corner of the living room. However, do not place the desk in the negative directions of each year. See how to identify negative directions in the past issues of 'My Life'.
In addition to the arrangement of the study area for your child, you can arrange his bedroom in according to feng shui principles, as well. The main considerations for the bedroom arrangement include the use of light and colours.
A child's bedroom should receive enough light and should not be humid. During the day time, leave the curtains or the windows open to receive the energy of yang from the sunlight.
The colours, too, can affect a child's behaviour. If you believe your child needs more enthusiasm, use green, red, pink, or orange. Green is the colour of the plant, the element of growth, education, and competition, while red and its related colours are associated to fire, the element of eagerness and cheerfulness.
On the other hand, if your child is overly active, add more blue, grey and black which represent water, the element of calmness and adaptability.
The use of colours can be done by painting or using the desired colour as the dominant colour, meaning a room can have many colours but the visitors to the room should immediately know which colour is highlighted.
The arrangement of the bed is also crucial. Some parents let their children sleep in the same room and arrange the beds in according to the conveniences. However, a child's bed must be placed in a proper area and not in close distance to the door or bathroom, not under the beam or under corners of ceiling plates.
