Two big rock bands, Travis from the UK and Simple Plan from Canada, will be performing together for the first time at Impact Arena, Muang Thong Thani on Tue, July 29.
The night will kick off at 7:30pm with the Canadian punk rock band Simple Plan, who will be rocking Thai fans with a string of hits like Shut Up, Jump, When I'm Gone, Your Love Is a Lie, Time to Say Goodbye and Welcome to My Life.
The quintet will be followed by the British quartet Travis, at 9:15pm. The group is well-known among Thai fans for their famous Sing, Closer and Why Does It Always Rain on Me?, which they are also planning to perform live during their 75-minute show.
Travis was one of the most prominent British trad rock bands in the mid-to late '90s. Formed in Glassgow in 1990, the group released two singles - All I Wanna Do Is Rock in 1996 and U16 Girls in 1997 before releasing their critically acclaimed full-length debut album Good Feeling later the same year.
The album included hit singles like Happy, More Than Us and Tied to the '90s and immediately entered the Top Ten of the UK charts. Though it was a slower, darker affair, when The Man Who appeared in 1999, it eclipsed Travis' previous successes, going platinum six times in the UK and spawning more hit singles such as Why Does It Always Rain on Me? and Writing to Reach You.
Debuting at the number one spot on the UK album chart, The Invisible Band was issued in June 2001. Two years later, the band had their fourth album 12 Memories, which was followed in late 2004 with the singles collection Singles.
Travis finally returned with an album of all-new material in the spring of 2007 entitled The Boy with No Name, whose arrival was announced by the release of the single Closer.
Comprising Fran Healy (lead vocals), Dougie Payne (bass guitar), Andy Dunlop (lead guitar) and Neil Primrose (drum), Travis have twice been awarded British album of the year at the annual Brit Awards, and are often credited with having paved the way for bands such as Coldplay, Keane and Snow Patrol.
The Montreal-based punk-pop group, Simple Plan, founded in 1999, is comprised of high school pals Pierre Bouvier (vocals), Jeff Stinco (guitar), David Desrosiers (bass), Sebastien Lefebvre (guitar), and Chuck Comeau (drums).
The five-piece had their first studio and double-platinum album, No Pads, No Helmets...Just Balls in 2002. The pure pop-punk record came up with four singles - I'm Just a Kid, I'd Do Anything, Addicted and Perfect.
Their second album, 2004's platinum Still Not Getting Any, however, showed a dramatic change in Simple Plan's style. They still kept their style of downbeat lyrics matched to upbeat music, but managed to transcend from the standard pop-punk genre. The general slant of this album was said to tend towards straightforward, well-crafted modern rock.
Released early this Feb, their self-titled album Simple Plan explores the new territory. It achieved their highest charting single in the UK. Full of unbridled energy, ripping guitars, hook-filled melodic sensibilities, this third album is a statement of artistic ambition and growth from the five-member group.
