To promote awareness of global warming and to show their environmental concern, Siam Discovery and Siam Commercial Bank are holding an exhibition showcasing eco-friendly furniture creatively designed by Assist Prof Dr Singh Intrachooto of Kasetsart University's Faculty of Architecture. The exhibition will be running at the Grand Hall on the 1st floor of Siam Discovery shopping centre from July 8-14.
Entitled "Osisu Exhibition", this is the first chance for visitors to see over 30 outstanding pieces of eco-friendly furniture made of waste such as teak, plywood, food packaging, glass, milk cartons and steel scraps.
Under the concept of "Biodiversity", they are inspired by animal forms and their movement represents the co-existence of animals and plants in the ecosystem. They are designed in various shapes of animals such as elephant, hippo, giraffe, grasshopper, spider, clam, starfish and puppy.
Each piece combines furniture design with environment protection. It shows that waste is valuable and can be re-used as raw materials. What makes the furniture on show unique, however, is the fact that even though they are made of waste, they maintain high standard in terms of quality.
Interested members of the public are also invited to attend a DIY workshop to be conducted by Dr Singh on July 12-13. He will demonstrate how to create chic home de'cor items from re-used materials.
