Prayad Marksaeng's hopes of winning three tournaments in a row faded when he was six shots behind leader Kenichi Kuboya at the halfway stage of the US$1.4 million UBS Japan Golf Tour Championship in Ibaraki, Japan yesterday.
Prayad, winner of the last two Japan Golf Tour events, made birdies on the second and 14th holes. But disaster struck at the 17th when he suffered a double bogey after his second shot found the water.
He was one under-par total of 141 for tied 14th place at the par-71 Shishido Hills layout.
Thaworn Wiratchant and Prom Meesawat, the other two Thais in the tournament, both missed the cut.
Thaworn missed a six-foot birdie putt on the last hole that cost him dearly. He was tied 64th on seven-over-par 147 and missed the cut by just one shot.
Kuboya remained leader when he posted a 68 for a seven-under total of 135.
