CITROEN
First came the C3 hatchback, then the trendy Pluriel and now the funky Picasso

Emphasis on user-friendliness and chic factor. |

Citroen has come up with another chic MPV - the C3 Picasso - in an attempt to further steal shares in the fiercely competitive B-segment in Europe. It combines cute looks (or bizarre, depending how you see it) while squeezing out more versatility from its boxy interior. The French car maker targets couples needing more space than a conventional hatch but dying to do it in style on a low budget.
- The C3 Picasso's exterior takes some design cues from last year's Cactus concept car and looks nothing like the normal C3 hatchback on which it is based, or like the Pluriel hatch-cum-cabriolet.
- With a length of 4,080mm, 1,730mm wide and 1,620mm tall, the C3 Picasso is slightly larger than a Honda Jazz. The rear seats split fold and slide fore and aft independently of each another. A clever movable boot floor helps create a completely flat boot space right from the back of the front seats to the boot door. The front passenger seat also doubles as a coffee table when folded down.
- Power comes from quadruplet of two 1.6-litre petrol and diesel engines pumping out between 90hp and 125hp. The petrol motor gets both manual and automatic transmissions, while the diesel should come only with manual.
- The C3 Picasso will debut at the Paris Motor Show in October and goes on sale in the first half of 2009. By then it would be a good match for Nissan's second-generation Cube that's destined to become a world car.
WE THINK: Its elder and less groovy brother, C4 Picasso, still hasn't arrived in Thailand. But the C3 Picasso is a more attractive package at a more doable price of around B1.5m. It could steal some buyers from Mini and Fiat 500.
