If your face is like an oil well, you'll probably be suffering from greasy skin all day long. And this is not just a problem among young teens: even 40-somethings have to tackle the T-zone slick.
According to French cosmetics brand L'Occitane, approximately 80 percent of adolescents and 40 percent of adult women have combination skin or oily skin, with shiny T-zones, dilated pores, blackheads, occasional inflammations/infections and a dull complexion.
These two common skin types suffer from an excess of sebum, secreted by the sebaceous glands in the skin. Sebum production is directly influenced by hormones but there are other aggravating and often overlooked factors like stress, fatigue, UV rays, sunshine, warm climate and pollution as well as usage of harsh and pore-clogging cosmetics.
The tropical climate, with its warmth combined with humidity, makes sebum become fluid and accentuates shiny skin, and hence many Thai women keep facial blotters to hand as a quick fix to freshen up the face, while their basic beauty routine employs an oil-control skincare range that many cosmetics firms offer today.
L'Occitane advises that especially for combination and oily skin, applying a toner is an essential step to reinforce the purifying and mattifying effect of cleansers and following products. Likewise, regular exfoliation is recommended as a means to achieve a radiant glow since these skin types are prone to hyperkeratinization (thickening of the epidermis). RT
