BANKING
Thanachart Bank PCL has partnered with IBM Thailand in a seven-year IT outsourcing deal worth two billion baht to enhance IT capacity, create client satisfaction and to address progressive growth to a world class standard.
Thanachart Director and Information System and Technology Advisor Vichit Yarnamorn said that partnering with Scotiabank in 2007 had bolstered TBank's readiness to become a local bank with international standards. Cooperation between the two banks had also contributed to technology development and business process improvement, providing comprehensive finance and banking services and creating new opportunities for our customers."
The deal with IBM also covers services in the Thanachart Group, including Thanachart Securities, Thanachart Fund Management, Thanachart Life Assurance and Thanachart Insurance.
The main outsourcing services covered encompass data centre services, disaster recovery, server and network management services and IT security operations.
"In 2008, TBank will open more than 80 branches to reach 250 branches nationwide. As a leader in technology and an innovation partner, as well as its good understanding in the requirements of Thanachart Bank, we firmly believe that our IT capability will be significantly improved to support the growing business," he said.
It would help eliminate the high cost of in-house system development and would save on system maintenance, Vichit said, adding that outsourcing these IT functions would enable the bank to implement several business projects faster and more effectively with cost efficiency.
He assured the banks' customers that the information given to the bank was well protected with an efficient security system, adding that the IT outsourcing was aimed at creating confidence and ensuring the bank's customers' highest satisfaction.
IBM Thailand country general manager Thanwa Laohasiriwong said the deal with Thanachart marked a milestone for IBM in delivering integrated IT services that matched with the needs of companies in diverse industries.
The banking industry in particular required IT support with maximum reliability and professionalism, he said. Thanachart Bank had opted for IBM's Hosting Service since 2003, which meant that IBM understood the environment and needs of the bank well.
"As the banking industry has become increasingly competitive, one of the key success factors involves the use of technology that responds to an organisation's needs."
