The 56-year-old imam had been arrested and detained on March 19. He was found dead on March 21 when relatives came to visit him at the 39th Special Taskforce Unit at Wat Suan Tham in Rueso district.
His death sparked public outrage and drew the attention of the Asian Human Rights Commission.
Dr Suphawit Pakdichoke, of Rueso district hospital, said he performed an autopsy on the body. Inconsistent wounds showed the victim was physically abused several times.
His wounds were said to be caused by hard objects. Many ribs were broken and the broken ribs pierced the lungs. There were also many shallow bruises across the body.
