'Dubai Summer Surprises'

PATSINEE KRANLERT

Dubai's success as one of the world's most exciting shopping destinations is legendary. This gulf city is a year-round shoppers' paradise due to its abundance of tax free shops.

Emirates Airline is now offering travellers what it calls Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS), an assortment of packages starting from around 2,000 baht per person per night. Condition: packages need to be booked for a minimum of three nights.

Passengers can choose accommodation from a list of 24 city and beach hotels in various price range. The price includes a welcome pack, round-trip airport-hotel transfer in a chauffeur-driven car, all accommodation-related taxes and service charges.

These packages are available to every passenger regardless of ticket category until August 22. Passengers paying via MasterCard receive an additional 10 percent discount, while an extra 10kg baggage allowance will be given on return flights from Dubai.

For details, contact the airline's Bangkok office at 02-664-1040-4 or visit http://www.emirates.com.

Raging river dares rafters

Whitewater rafting has gained immense popularity among those adventurous at heart. The rapids of Kaeng Hin Poeng that originate in the Sai Yai River in Khao Yai National Park pose a fitting challenge to this breed of thrill seekers, especially during May to October when the river is swollen with water fed by monsoon rain.

Kaeng Hin Poeng boasts six major rapids rated three to five on the difficulty scale that require rafters to exercise great care and good paddling skills as they're swept downstream because the river is at its raging best this time of the year.

There are several operators in the area offering rafting excursions and the charge is 500 baht per person, or 3,500 baht for hiring the whole raft that can take up to eight persons.

For details, contact the Tourism Authority of Thailand's (TAT) local office at 037-312-282 and 037-315-664 or visit http://www.tat8.com.

The promotion is available to Royal First and Royal Silk class passengers with full mileage redeemable on both tickets. There is one condition: both travellers must commence the journey in Bangkok departing on the same flight. However, they can return separately and the journey must be completed by December 31.

The offer is available until September 30 with return travel valid for a period of three months from the date of departure. Visit http://www.thaiairways.co.th for more information.
