Dale Wasserman's Man of La Mancha, recently staged by the Theatre 28 Group, has inspired a number of Thai audience members - and aspiring artists, too. Now there's an opportunity to learn more about how the original story of Don Quixote has been portrayed in a variety of art forms over the years.
Duangkamol Film House, Butterfly Publishing House and Thammasat University are jointly holding a two-part series of rare film screenings and talks this coming Saturday and next.
On Saturday, the programme will start at 1pm with the screening of Don Quixote (1933) by director G.W. Pabst. This will be followed by Don Kikhot (1957), a Russian film by director Grigory Kozintsev. Finally, from 4 to 6pm, Suchart Swadsri and Makut Oradee will talk about "The World of Art in Don Quixote of La Mancha".
On July 12, from 12:30 to 2:45pm, you can enjoy a ballet version of Don Quixote, with Rudolf Nureyev as artistic director, followed by the Spanish film Honor de cavalleria (Honour of the Knights, 2006) directed by Albert Serra. The finale will be a chance to listen to Don Quixote, as composed by Richard Strauss and conducted by Herbert von Karajan.
Free admission. Inform staff at the Pridi Banomyong Library that you wish to attend the event(s), to be held in the Rewat Phuttinant Room.
