Buddhism and capital punishment

What does Buddhism think about capital punishment? Is capital punishment, after all, against human rights?

On July 7, a group of monks, lawyers and social activists will talk about the Buddhist view of capital punishment at the Maha Chularatch Wittayalai in Ubon Ratchathani.

Among the invited speakers are Danthong Breen of the Union of Civil Liberty, Phra Paisan Visalo, Thongbai Tongpao, Surasri Kosolnawin and Pairote Polpetch.

There is no admission fee and the public are welcome.
