If you wish your home's interior to better capture a sense of serenity or optimism, white is highly recommended.
Weerasak Thongpaiboon, an architect at the Association of Siamese Architects and the owner of We Studio notes that white represents virtue, purity, cleanliness and innocence.
It is the perfect starting colour to build a colour palette and almost everything looks good with it. That's why white is the most popular paint colour.
White offers many benefits. It is work so well because it reflects a great deal of light, which save energy and decreases heat. Most importantly, white can make the room look more spacious. In small doses, white can also help brighten up any dark corner of a room. In this way, it helps lessen a number of mosquitoes in your room. White is an ideal paint colour for countries with a tropical climate like Thailand.
White rooms look great with splashes of colour, Weerasak says. As the sizes of condominium are becoming smaller, however, choosing lots of colours can make a small room feel over loaded. A good colour combination can make your room feel relaxing and serene.
"The trick is to keep it simple and controlled and avoid all the confusion that comes from multi-hued clutter," says Weerasak.
For instance, if your walls and ceilings are painted with white, a red big sofa will make white walls appear soft pink. Add orange pillows to your sofa. Colour combinations of red, pink and orange in interior design makes a room look beautiful. It also makes a wonderful sight.
Is accent needed? Weerasak answers "Well, it's up to you."
A simple interior should have an accent so it won't feel boring. Use simple and minimalist decorations and furniture with gentle curves to soften your room. Try to put a ceramic vase with a few tulips. See if that doesn't change the whole mood of the room.
If you're truly a fan of white, consider an all-white room. Decorating a room using white on white might seem like an easy design idea, but if not done right, your room can end up cold and sterile rather than inviting and comforting, Weerasak warns.
Add some texture and use a variety of tones and shades if you don't want a room to look like the local hospital room. White comes in a wide ranges of shades and tones. There are bright, flat white, a bright, glossy white, eggshells, snow white and creams to choose from. A bright, flat white is often used on walls and a bright, glossy white is used to trim a contrast against a bright wall colour. A textured rug or carpet in a neutral shade finishes the look.
"Try to blend different shades of white nicely together, and they are slightly different from one another. They give your room variety so that it looks elegant and luxurious rather than stark," Weerasak suggests.
Although white has many positive advantages, it has some drawbacks. White is perhaps more obvious. It shows stains and messes more readily than any other colour.
So of course you must hold off if you have young children, a lot of pets or guests who like to put their muddy feet up on the sofa. White on white colour scheme only works if the room is kept clean and tidy.
When you create your room, don't forget to have fun.
"Remember that there are no rules of thumb in decorating. Just create what feels and looks good to you and you are happy with the end result," Weerasak concludes
