IT'S FISTS AND BANANAS IN BANGKOK THIS WEEK

The French. They love a good martial arts movie. The Thais, we love to go inter. Last year's hit Chaiya, about fighters in the South of Thailand beating up foreign baddies, has proved a hit in France. With the title changed to "Boxers", the action-packed film starring Akra "Golf" Amarttayakul climbed to the top of the DVD charts in August.

Going bananas over cake

Sopitnapa "Jeab" Chumpanee, who first came to attention with 2003's Thai romance set in New York February, is a busy mum. She stars in TV soap operas and is the host of her own show, Fah Mueng Thai. Now, she's into banana cake. As the story goes, her son loves banana cake. But grandma (Jeab's mum) feels that most banana cakes have too little banana and too much flour, and aren't very healthy. Grandma bakes her banana cakes with lots of banana and minimal flour, and they're a hit. Jeab loves them. Son Benne loves them. Friends and family love them. So why not make some money from it, the actress, celebrity and mother asked? She called it "Benne" cake and would like you to try it at Villa Market.
