Foreign banks wary

BANKING :Foreign banks have expressed concern about lending constraints under the new Financial Institutions Businesses Act.

The law tightens regulations governing single-loan limits to guard against excessive concentration of loan portfolios.

But foreign bankers who met yesterday with central bank regulators expressed concern about how the new law would be applied in practice.

Bandid Nijathaworn, a deputy central bank governor, said the meeting with 21 foreign banks also discussed international market trends and the problems of oil prices and inflation.

KK debt rated A-

FINANCE :Tris Rating has assigned an A- rating to the proposed issue of up to five billion baht worth of senior debentures by Kiatnakin Bank Plc (KK). The company and current issue ratings were affirmed at A- with a stable outlook.

Tris said the ratings reflected KK's acceptable retail banking position, experienced management team and capability to maintain profitability. Ratings are constrained by high delinquent loans, its small-sized banking model and limited distribution channels compared with subsidiaries of large banks. In addition, vulnerability to intense competition in retail banking and exposure to a high-risk portfolio might limit future business growth and profitability.

KK shares closed yesterday on the SET at 21.40 baht, up 10 satang, in trade worth 5.97 million baht.
