For those who love to hide out in a calm valley and enjoy peaceful moments in a culturally rich town, Mae Hong Son can be one of their destinations of choice.
Hidden in a sleepy, misty valley, Mae Hong Son is a tranquil haven rich in Shan art and culture, and the easy going, charmful lifestyle of its people keeps visitors returning to this province.
Here, there is no rush hour, no traffic jam. Walk down Mae Hong Son's quiet streets and you will realise why many consider this little town one of their favourite hideaways. It is packed with beautiful Shan-style Buddhist temples constructed with the most intricate craftsmanship that mirror the people's devotion to religion. You can even sense that strong aura of faith sitting in the glorious wooden vihara of Wat Chong Kham and Wat Chong Klang.
Devout Buddhists never miss paying homage to a huge reclining Buddha image at Wat Phra Non, then walk uphill to Wat Phra That Doi Kong Mu, and enjoy a bird's eye view of this lovely town.
Mae Hong Son not only has fascinating cultural attractions just a stone's throw from downtown, it is also blessed with a beautiful rural landscape set amidst picturesque rice paddies and lush jungle.
Women travellers love to nourish their skin with Ban Pang Mu's mineral-rich mud, while love couples like to hide out and soak up in a romantic corner of Pang Ung whose scenic reservoir lures all travellers into its embrace.
