SUNDAY PEOPLE
GET WELL SOON, SWEETHEART
Kids today may not be familiar with "Mam" Jintara Sukapat. They may only know her as "that lady who plays the Mum in lakorn". But to those growing up in the 1980s and 90s, she's Thailand's sweetheart.
The girl who touches Robin Williams' heart in 1987's Good Morning Vietnam, the heroine of the popular Boonchu romantic comedy film series (this year's remake won't be the same without her and Santisuk Promsiri as Boonchu) and the reason to watch prime-time lakorn. Earlier this year, Mam began to notice some irregular weight gains (but then again, is there any woman who will say they gain weight regularly?)
After a visit to the doctor, it turned out she has diabetes mellitus and impaired glucose tolerance. The doctor prescribed a healthy diet and regular daily workout with a personal trainer.
BOONCHU JUNIOR
Talking about the Boonchu movie series, in theatres now is the remake of the film about everyone's favourite bumbling, tumbling but good-hearted country bumpkin. Filling the shoes of the original Boonchu (Santisuk Promsiri) won't be easy, but young actor Thanachart Tulachart has promised to do his loveable country bumpkin best.
Check out the movie at a theatre near you.
On another note, with this movie, Thanachart has definitely reached stardom. How do we know this?
Rumours have it that there are already "sexy photos" of him floating around the internet.
If there's a sure-fire measure of a bona fide star, it's that "sexy photos" of him have found their way onto the internet - just ask Paris Hilton. Ah, those silly celebs and stars...
THE MAN IN THE MONKEY SUIT
Today is the last day of Sirisak Nantasen's concert at Thai Festival Osaka 2008 in Japan. Who is Sirisak, you ask? He is otherwise known as Tik Ziro, one of Thailand's most enduring pop stars, whose most recent hit "Rak Mai Yom Plien Plang" ("You Can't Change Love") still echoes through the walls of karaoke joints from Chiang Mai to Pattani. Tik Ziro led a troupe of Grammy singers to the concert in Osaka as part of an effort to strengthen Thai-Japan relationship. Sing well, Tik, sing well...
THE ACADEMY OF
SEXINESS
Academy Fantasia - you know it. You watch it. You love it. Or at least a lot of people do. But the thing is, there have been more AF contestants than there are pot-holes in the streets of Bangkok. It's difficult to follow who's who. But there's at least one that you should now recognise: Preaw, Anussara Wontongtak from AF2. Preaw has just released her new modern pop album, "Daisy Daisy".
