Fresh out of college or university and applying for that first job is never easy. The amount of time spent going through the classified pages, sending out dozens of applications and waiting desperately for their replies is all very stressful.
Luckily, these are all things of the past. Today, it's much easier to get a good job by letting an online recruitment network find the right job for you.
Online recruitment is becoming very popular among job hunters and business companies who find it a more convenient and effective channel to achieve what they want.
Such online convenience does not mean that every applicant can easily get a job without doing anything.
Satinee Mokaves, managing director of JobsDB Recruitment (Thailand), a leading online recruitment network, suggests job hunters should pay greater attention to their curriculum vitaes (CVs). A well-written CV will be to your advantage, she notes.
"Writing good resume's is one thing that job hunters should get to know. I've found a lot of new graduates who have little knowledge in writing CVs. A bad CV could be your downfall to getting your dream job," Satinee explains.
Writing an impressive CV
- Senior university students who are about to graduate should start developing their CVs so they will be ready with attractive tools to fight other candidates when the time comes.
"Many graduates look set to apply for their dream jobs, but they just overlook a crucial step - how can one applicant outshine others if his or her CV does not look good?" Satinee says.
- A good CV should be short and concise, but carry all important information that employers need to know. Remember to always get right to the point. The appropriate length should be about one A4 page.
- For new graduates, the CV should consist of three major components, personal profile, education record and their activities or internship experiences while being students.
Those engaged in university activities will be given an advantage as it helps prove their teamwork and leadership skills in some cases.
- For general employees who want new jobs, the CVs should include their personal profile, education, job experiences and also reason for leaving the previous jobs.
- Be careful of your work record. A good CV should indicate your change of jobs in a reasonable period. Leaving one job in less than three months could give a bad impression.
"Even though you are fed up with your job, don't leave it in the first three months. That's too early and you won't learn anything from the organisation. Future employers may consider you an aimless person and you gain no score for loyalty," Satinee adds.
- Make sure your CV is neatly typed and the font is easy to read. This is important if you are applying for a secretary's position. If your CV doesn't look neat, you are unlikely to pass the test.
- If you have worked in an organisation for a very long time and want to change jobs, the CV should show steps of your career advancement in the organisation.
- Always update your CV and check out the online recruitment web sites to see updated information about job fairs and employment opportunities.

Who should buy an insurance covering serious-diseases?
Anyone that has risks and can afford the insurance should purchase it. Parents, in particular, are those who usually take this type of insurance seriously. That's because one single illness can drain all their savings. So having this insurance somehow can help put their minds at ease.
How much should you purchase or how much should the insured sum be?
According to Pramote Sakkumjorn, first senior vice-president at Muang Thai Life Assurance, this is the toughest question to answer as people's lives can't be assessed or calculated for. No one can tell you how much you should pay for the insurance but your yourself.
The thing is that you should sit down and figure out the following: How many people reply on you? Are they financially independent or do they depend on you for support? If so, how much money will be enough for them to survive once you are gone? What debts need to be repaid?
Only after answering these questions can one calculate the amount of insurance needed. However, make sure that you can afford the premium. According to the rule of thumb, the premium should not exceed 10 to 15 per cent of one's yearly salary.
How to select a policy?
Most insurance policies have become commodities and have minor differences. For instance, Muang Thai Life Assurance launched Happy Lady, a rider especially for women who are concerned about their health. Apart from regular features, this policy offers to pay for facial and breast plastic surgery if needed after an operation or treatment to cure diseases threatening the lives of policyholders.
The more information you gather on policies, the better the decision.
What are other key factors you should take into account?
For whatever insurance policies you may buy, reputation, credibility and financial stability of the insurance company is a crucial element that must be taken into account. So, it's essential quality for you to look closely at the company before making a decision.
The Department of Insurance can be of help, as it provides basic information about each insurance company in the market.
