A Thai Olympic gold medallist is assured of at least 13 million baht in bonus from the government and the private sector.

Osotspa Co, producer of energy drink M-150, is the latest sponsor which promises one million baht for a Thai athlete who wins gold in Beijing.

Osotspa executive vice president Thana Chaiprasit said the company would also give a silver medallist 500,000 baht and a bronze winner 200,000 baht.

''We have supported Thai sports for more than 30 years,'' said Thana, also Thailand's delegation chief for the 2008 Olympic Games.

''Thailand have won 17 medals in the Olympics and we hope we win more golds in the coming Games.''

M-150 will also give a total of 390,000 baht in pocket money for the Thailand athletes who will be taking part in the 29th Games.

Under the government's bonus scheme, an Olympic gold winner will get 10 million baht. McDonald's and AIS each have promised to give an Olympic champion another one million baht.
