Prayad Marksaeng says he will be fit for next week's British Open but refuses to set a target because he is not familiar with the course.
The Thai, who is ranked 70th in the world, suffered a back pain at the Masters in April when he withdrew during the second round.
He was again hit by the back pain in last week's UBS Japan Golf Tour Championship where he finished joint 18th.
The 42-year-old star is taking a one-week break before going to the British Open to be held at Royal Birkdale from July 17-20.
''I will see my physiotherapist today and hope I will recover soon,'' said Prayad. ''It is not as bad as the last time when I had to withdraw from the Masters. At that time, I could not even pick up the ball.''
It will be Prayad's second appearance at the British Open. He made his Open debut in 1999 at Carnoustie where he finished third from last ahead of Sergio Garcia who was dead last.
He said it was hard to predict how well he would perform at Birkdale. ''It is not the same course I played in 1999. At the moment, I do not know even the course layout,'' he said.
As for the UBS Japan Golf Tour Championship where he finished joint 18th, Prayad said that he could not have asked for a better result since he was not fit enough. ''To be in the top-20 was not too bad,'' said the Thai star who is the Japan tour money leader.
