Newin's not involved, says his dad

MANOP THIP-OSOD

House Speaker Chai Chidchob has denied his son Newin is a member of the ''gang of four'' said to be cashing in on state projects in preparation for the next elections.

Existence of the ''gang of four'' was alleged by PPP MP for Roi Et Sakda Khongphet, who said top people in the party were eyeing vested interests worth billions of baht related to the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority's planned 10-year lease of 6,000 gas-fuelled, air-conditioned buses. The so-called gang is believed to comprise Mr Newin, Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej, secretary-general Theerapol Nopparampa and Finance Minister Surapong Suebwonglee.

Mr Chai said Mr Sakda could ask the National Counter Corruption Commission to look into any irregularities, but his son was not involved.

Mr Sadka claimed the four PPP members planned to form a new party and team up with the Democrats after the polls.
