TJA asks for quick arrest

The Thai Journalists Association (TJA) yesterday petitioned police chief Patcharawat Wongsuwan to quickly find the gunman who killed Matichon reporter Athiwat Chainurat at his house in Nakhon Si Thammarat on Friday. Pol Gen Patcharawat gave an assurance investigators would give extra attention to the case.

TJA president Nattaya Chetchotiros said the association believed Athiwat's investigative reports were the reason for his murder, which was blatant media intimidation.

A police source said investigators suspected the killing may be linked to his investigation of corruption involving a local politician.

The 48-year-old reporter was shot in the head, back and stomach in the kitchen only minutes before his wife and two children arrived home
