KITTIPONG THONGSOMBAT
The Thai boxing team will arrive in Beijing on August 5, just four days before the competition starts, for fear that their fighters could be affected by air pollution.
The squad were originally scheduled to arrive in Beijing on August 1 but Taweep Jantararoj, president of the Amateur Boxing Association of Thailand (Abat) has changed the plan after a recent visit to China.
''I am not happy with the air pollution in Beijing. Our boxers could have a tough time. They could get sick easily,'' he said.
''It will be better to fly to Beijing as late as possible.
''We plan to arrive there on August 5 instead of August 1.''
Gen Taweep was also worried that the pollution could make it harder for his boxers to make the weight limits
At the moment, light-flyweight Amnat Ruenroeng and featherweight Sailom Adi still have weight problems.
As for defending light-welterweight champion Manus Boonjumnong, his injured wrist is healed.
Gen Taweep was pleased with the Athletes' Village and other facilities available for the boxers.
Thailand have eight fighters in the 29th Games. The draw will be made on August 8 and the competition will start the following day.
