The National Counter Corruption Commission yesterday filed a complaint with police against pro-government demonstrators who joined a series of rallies outside the NCCC headquarters and used abusive language against its members. In the complaint lodged by Chairat Khanitthabutr, a legal expert attached to the NCCC, the anti-graft agency accused the demonstrators, led by Somyos Prueksakasemsuk, of defaming state officials and illegal assembly.
Submitted as evidence were 33 CDs featuring photos of the rallies which took place on July 22, July 23, July 29 and Aug 6 and one video CD recording parts of the rallies.
The NCCC says the demonstrators accused the agency of being an unconstitutional and unlawful body and of harbouring ill-intentions toward the government.
They also used offensive words and staged activities that insulted NCCC members.
On July 29, the demonstrators wrote the names of NCCC members on pieces of tile as a way to call them thick-faced (Thai slang for shameless).
On Aug 6, they likened the graft busters to monitor lizards, wrote their names onto the animals and released them into NCCC headquarters. The Thai word for monitor lizard is considered an offensive term.
Pol Col Somchai Choeyklin, superintendent of Dusit police station, said police will question witnesses and decide if there are grounds to the complaint.
