Sodexo to bulk up its operations

CHAROEN KITTIKANYA

Sodexo, one of the world's leading providers of integrated food and facilities management services, wants to beef up its technical services in Thailand as part of its global strategic plan to double revenue and triple profit growth by 2015.

''Our catering business will continue to grow, but we expect technical services will grow much faster,'' said Stuart Winters, regional director of Sodexo for Thailand, Malaysia and Laos.

Currently, catering services contribute about 60% of revenue for Sodexo Thailand, with technical services or engineering making up the rest.

According to Mr Winters, the company projected its revenue structure would reverse in its next fiscal year starting from September boosted by the growing health care industry in Thailand.

Founded through a joint venture between Sodexo and the Bangkok Dusit Medical Services Plc, the country's largest hospital chain operator, Sodexo Thailand started by contracting with the Samitivej Sukhumvit Hospital to provide catering services to inpatients, outpatients, and visitors.

Sodexo has added hospitals to its portfolio: Samitivej Sriracha, Samitivej Srinakarin, Bangkok Pattaya Hospital, BNH and Bangkok Phuket Hospital, as well as Bumrungrad, Yanhee Hospital, and Mahnam Hospital.

After four years of operation, Sodexo Thailand currently comprises three companies _ Sodexo Support Services Thailand, Sodexo Healthcare Support Services Thailand and Sodexo Amarit Co (formerly Universal Amarit) _ employing 1,400 people.

The company's services currently span a range from food services to facilities management, energy management, remote sites, and the latest service, clinical technology services, with sales growing by more than 100% each year. Last year, the company reported sales of more than one billion baht.

Sodexo is the first international company in Thailand to offer independent clinical technology services to hospitals in Thailand.

Under the new service, the company would help hospitals manage preventive and corrective maintenance of all medical equipment as well as create an inventory and track the location of all medical equipment within the hospital.

In addition, it will provide training on safe usage of medical equipment and basic training on how to operate certain equipment.
