Chaiya: Disqualified
from cabinet post |
The disqualification of Public Health Minister Chaiya Sasomsab from the cabinet has given a senior official a chance to seek justice after his allegedly unfair transfer.
Siriwat Thiptaradol, now an inspector at the Public Health Ministry, said he had asked his lawyers if the Constitution Court's verdict on Mr Chaiya would have a positive impact on his case.
He has petitioned the Administrative Court over his transfer by Mr Chaiya.
The cabinet on March 20 endorsed the appointment of Department of Medical Services director-general Chatree Banchuen to replace Dr Siriwat as secretary-general of the Food and Drug Administration.
Dr Chatree said he had not yet talked to legal experts about the legitimacy of Mr Chaiya's transfer order now he had been removed from the health portfolio.
The court on Wednesday ruled that the minister had broken the assets declaration rules. The court upheld the finding of the National Counter Corruption Commission that Mr Chaiya had violated the constitution by failing to disclose his wife's shareholding in excess of 5% in a private company, Sab Hok Heng, within 30 days of taking office. The court said Mr Chaiya's cabinet status ended on March 6, when the deadline fell due.
Deputy Public Health Minister Wicharn Meenchainan will hold talks with senior officials at the ministry today.
''No one had ever expected that the verdict would turn out like this. It's sudden,'' he said.
He also indicated that he might keep Wan Yubamrung, son of Interior Minister Chalerm, as his assistant.
Chaktham Thammasak said he was assigned by permanent secretary for public health Prat Boonyawongwirote to carefully check with legal experts if there was any damage as a result of Mr Chaiya being stripped of cabinet rank.
So far there have been no reports of damage caused by Mr Chaiya while he was minister, he said.
