Police denies using pistol

A police officer who was filmed aiming a pistol during the crackdown on the People's Alliance for Democracy on Tuesday insisted he was aiming his gun at the tyre of a pick-up truck, but in the end he said he did not fire a shot.

Natthawut: Aiming at a pick-up truck.

Pol L/C Natthawut Chanthorn admitted yesterday that he was the officer captured in video clips and media photos during the crackdown on anti-government demonstrators.

He was attached to the 191 Special Operations Police Division which was sent to parliament on Tuesday.

The officer said he saw a pick-up truck racing towards police with the intention of hurting them.

He said he intended to shoot out the tyre of the vehicle to stop it in order to save his colleagues.

But the truck changed course and sped off and he did not pull the trigger, Pol L/C Natthawut said.

Metropolitan Police Bureau chief Pol Lt-Gen Suchart Muenkaew said a preliminary investigation found that Pol L/C Natthawut was aiming at the tyre of a pick-up truck that was racing toward a deputy inspector of Tao Pun Police Station and another police officer.
