Senator Ruangkrai Leekijwattana has petitioned the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) to investigate whether 32 former cabinet ministers in the Samak Sundaravej administration have credit card debts, and declared them, as required by the constitution.
Mr Ruangkrai said only 12 of 44 ministers in the previous government had declared credit card debts.
Cabinet ministers in the Samak government declared their assets and liabilities on Jan 22.
Mr Ruangkrai believed most of the former cabinet ministers must have owned credit cards and he suspected some might have not declared their debts.
Article 259 of the charter requires cabinet ministers to declare their assets and liabilities as well as those of their spouses and children aged under 18 to the NACC.
In the event they fail to declare their assets and debts or submit false declarations, the anti-graft agency must refer the cases to the Supreme Court's Criminal Division for Holders of Political Positions for a decision.
Those found guilty will be removed from their positions and barred from taking political posts for five years.
Mr Ruangkrai urged the anti-graft agency to ask for information from the National Credit Bureau Co to investigate use of credit cards owned by the 32 former cabinet ministers, their spouses and children.
Former cabinet ministers in the Samak government who told the NACC that they had credit cards included Somchai Wongsawat, Santi Promphat, Anusorn Wongwan, Songsak Thongsri and Supon Fongngam.
Previously, Mr Ruangkrai had also lodged a petition with the Election Commission, accusing Prime Minister Somchai of violating the constitution by holding shares in CS Loxinfo Co (CSL).
CSL has a 22-year concession contract from CAT Telecom Plc to provide television and internet signal transmission services via satellite, running until Aug 8, 2016.
Earlier, he also filed charges that brought down former prime minister Samak for breaching the charter by hosting paid cooking shows on commercial television while in office.
