BEIJING : Her Majesty the Queen yesterday thanked Olympic weightlifting champion Prapawadee Jaroenrattanatarakoon for bringing happiness to all Thais.
"Congratuations and thank you Prapawadee for making a reputation for Thailand and bringing happiness to all Thais," the Queen said in a message to Prapawadee via the Thai embassy.
Thanpuying Charungjit Teekara, private secretary to the Queen, also called the gold medal winner to relay the message.
"I feel grateful. It is a great honour for my family. I will give the medal to the Queen," said Prapawadee who won the 53kg title on Sunday.
Her Majesty also gave the lifter a bouquet of flowers which Prapawadee received at the Thai embassay.
Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej also called Prapawadee to thank her for bringing smiles to Thais' faces.
