The Royal Agricultural Research Centre in Chiang Mai is host to a Lanna art and cultural festival that kicks off today and runs until August 24, courtesy the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT).
Located in Muang district of the province, visitors to the research centre can look forward to a range of activities including exhibitions featuring a traditional Lanna market, performing arts and craftsmanship, cultural shows native to the four regions of Thailand and contemporary plays King Ka-ra bird dance, Khru Ka-wai sword dance and the Jumping Bird Show.
Complementing the festival are activities planned along the sidewalks downtown where visitors can learn about Lanna heritage by watching musical performances or observing skilled craftsmen plying their trade, including talented young students wielding portrait-drawing skills.

Siam Society looks northeast
The Siam Society is organising a trip to the northeastern region highlighting the history and culture of the provinces of Kalasin, Mukdahan and Nakhon Phanom.
Scheduled August 22-24, the tour party will visit the Phuthai museums and villages to observe their history, arts and customs, followed by temples known for their unique architecture and paintings such as Wat Phra That Phanom, one of the most revered Buddhist site in the region, by the Mekong River.
The bus taking the tour party leaves Siam Society for Kalasin on August 22 at 7pm. On the return leg the group will fly out of Sakon Nakhon on August 24 at 8:40pm by PB Air and arrive at Suvarnabhumi Airport around 9:50pm.
Society members are required to contribute 11,900 baht per head to cover the cost of transportation, eight meals, two-night hotel accommodation and other expenses. Non-members pay an extra 1,500 baht.

Bangkok-Colombo promotion
