The Election Commission has issued a red card to a People Power party MP and yellow cards to another PPP MP and two from Puea Pandin, all accused of cheating in the Dec 23 general election.
Election commissioner Prapun Naigowit said the EC voted unanimously to ask the Supreme Court's election division to disqualify Prasit Wutthinanchai, PPP MP for Chiang Mai's constituency 3, and take legal action against him.
The court will also be asked to order Mr Prasit to cover the cost of a by-election in his constituency.
The EC also resolved to issue yellow cards to PPP MP for Chiang Mai constitution 3 Jullapan Amornvivat and two Puea Pandin MPs for Pattani's constituency 2, Vimukta Waba and Yusi Sula-lor, for vote buying.
The court will be asked to order by-elections in the three constituencies. Unlike red cards, yellow-carded MPs are allowed to contest the re-runs.
Mr Prapun said the EC will also ask the court to order a senate by-election in Nakhon Phanom as the commission had decided to issue a yellow card to Witthaya Inala.
The EC is still considering the remaining poll fraud investigation reports against MPs and senators, but there are only a few cases left.
Mr Prapun yesterday called on the two candidates contesting the by-election in Bangkok's constituency 11 - Saweng Ruekcharas of PPP and Watchara Phetthong of the Democrat party - to strictly adhere to election campaign rules and not to engage in mudslinging.
Samarn Lertwongrat, the PPP's registrar, said the EC's resolution to issue red and yellow cards to the MPs was not considered final. The party would await a ruling from the Constitution Court on the EC's decision.
Deputy House Speaker Samart Kaewmeechai admitted three government MPs had not signed in during last week's joint meeting of parliament called to hear the government's policy statement, but asked colleagues to press voting cards to show they were present.
But removing the names of those MPs, two from the PPP and the other from a coalition party, would not affect the meeting quorum requirement, he said.
