Relaxing Zen style

A decor that is much more than words

THOSATHORN KRUTHANAWAT

As weekends approach most people tend to look for a paradise to relax their tired minds and bodies, and there is no better place than having a Zen styled house.

Zen is not a religion and not a philosophy, it doesn't have any systematic form of presenting its ideas unlike Western philosophies. In simple words, "Zen is a state of mind that heightens our awareness without relying fully opinions and ideas."

Going to a resort and having a welcome drink and a fruit platter in a private villa or room is everyone's desire. Harmonious decor provides a more soothing and relaxed surrounding, giving the ultimate relaxation to your much worked body amd mind.

Creating a Zen style environment is easy, and resorts such as Bari Lamai, located in Rayong is a good example. The resort's style represents a simple, yet opulent lifestyle that can be imitated in our daily lives. The word Bari means a land of water and lamai means tender, which translates as a feeling of tender relaxation in a land of water.

Bare shell walls and floors and bright sunshine through French doors makes each room in-sync with nature. Every unit has a big, comfy sofa with a sea-view, which provides a peaceful and relaxed state of mind.

The Zen concept is to have less exotic furniture, flashy colours, fussy curtains and expensive accessories, instead decorating your house with open spaces, natural materials, simple furnishings and solid colours, with pleasant artworks.

It is therefore, no wonder why Zen styled decor has become one of the hottest trends in home interiors.

Of course, if you'd like ideas about creating an awesome look in every room of your house--regardless of what decorating style you choose.More than ever, people want to feel calm and balanced in their daily lives. And since our home should be a warm, comfortable place to relax, it is the best place to create the balanced, peaceful atmosphere we are searching for.

Zen means meditation in Japanese. Not surprisingly decorating in Zen style is an important element of Japanese home decor.

As interior designers say Zen styled decor is more than just words, it is a reflection of balance, harmony and relaxation. And, that's not the same as dull and boring.
