PORNNALAT PRACHYAKORN
Siam Piwat Co, the operator of Siam Center and Siam Discovery, says its two shopping complexes have not been affected by the current slowing economy, thanks to continual marketing activities and promotional campaigns.
The two centres still enjoy daily traffic of 120,000 people on average.
''We have continued to launch many activities to retain loyal shoppers and lure new customers. Major effective events include mini-concerts of Korean pop singers, which have been surprisingly popular among teenagers who are our target customers,'' said Mayuree Chaipromprasith, the company's assistant managing director.
K-pop mini-concerts organised at the centres helped boost the number of visitors to 200,000 per day.
Event activities helped double sales of retail stores and restaurants as people stay longer during activities, she said.
The company plans to stage at least 20 marketing activities and major promotional campaigns in the second half of this year with a total budget of 50 million baht. Five would be mini-concerts of the Korean singers including the boy band Supernova, which will be held this month at Discovery Plaza.
It has also been renovating 80 in-store ad screens in both complexes to better attract advertising agencies. They will promote store activities with these screens.
The company recorded 5% growth in revenue in the first half due to stable rental fees and additional space. It expects revenue to grow by 10% for 2008.
It will allocate 12 million baht to its annual Shop Marathon from July 24-27.
Mrs Mayuree said the sluggish economy did not seriously affect sales of stores in the complexes as each store had been strengthening its customer relationship management and continued to offer promotional campaigns that had helped encourage customer spending.
