The hotel management company Langham Hotels International has announced plans to manage at least five more hotels in Thailand over the next five years. Langham is negotiating to manage 12 hotels and deals to operate three properties in Bangkok are likely to be finalised within this year, executives said at the launch yesterday of The Langham Place in Phuket.
Andrew Jessop, the vice-president of Langham, said hotel developers were increasingly open to hiring new international hotel brands to manage their properties.
''They are confident that customers also want to test new services and hotel styles,'' he said. ''This is the reason why the number of new hotels has sharply increased since last year.'

Langham entered Thailand this year through a management contract for the rebranded Langham Place Eco Resort-Spa on Koh Lanta, Krabi.
Yesterday, the company introduced The Langham Place Miora Resort + Spa _ a complex of 78 private pool villas along with a spa, a beach club, restaurants and bars spread across a 32-rai site on Kalim Bay in Phuket.
The resort, which is owned by a UK construction firm, is scheduled to open in 2010. Under a 15-year management agreement, in the first year of operation Mr Jessop expects an occupancy rate of 60%, which would later rise to 75%.

| Jessop: Guests seek new experiences |
He said tourists from Scandinavia, the UK and other European countries will be the main target group for the villas, which will be priced from $400 to $500 per night. However, he identified China, India, Eastern Europe and the Middle East as emerging markets with great growth potential based on high purchasing power.
Apart from its plans in Thailand, Mr Jessop said that Langham would like to add 25 properties to its South East Asia portfolio within five years.
Langham Hotels International has three brands: the ''luxurious and traditional'' Langham Hotels and Resorts; the ''simple and chic'' Langham Place; and Eaton Hotel four-star hotels.
Langham now operates 17 properties, nine of which it also owns.
The company is owned by Great Eagle Holdings, which was established in 1963 and is listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.
