Reid searching for silverware

TOR CHITTINAND

HANOI : Peter Reid is confident Thailand will win the T&T Cup - his first tournament as Thailand coach.

The Thai team arrived in the Vietnamese capital yesterday and will meet the hosts in the final match of the tournament tomorrow.

The game was originally scheduled for November 1 but was postponed due to torrential rain.

Reid said he was pleased with the weather and hoped it would be good when the match takes place.

Because of the weather and long trips, several Thai players are sick, the former England international said. They include Kittisak Rawangpa, Nataporn Phanrit, Phichitpong Cheuichiew and Teerasil Dangda.

Thailand were beaten 1-0 by Saudi Arabia in Riyadh in a friendly last week.

"We went to Saudi Arabia and came back a few days ago. This seems to have caused trouble for the team and many players have flu," Reid said.

A Vietnamese journalist asked Reid to comment on Vietnam coach Henrique Calisto's remark that Thailand are kings of South East Asia and Reid said he was flattered.

The winners of the T&T Cup will receive 1,400,000 baht while the runner-ups will get 1,050,000 baht.

The match kicks off at 7pm tomorrow and will be shown live on NBT (Channel 11).
