'No Coffee, No Life." The slogan on Meechai Amornpathanakul, president of the Thai Baristas Association, said it all.
He recently conducted a lecture on the making of a great cup of coffee at True Life, Chamchuri Square, for members of True Sphere, as part of its on-going series of unique activities and lifestyle experiences, which in the past have included a trip to the historic side of Hua Hin, following the legend of King Naresuan at the film production site in Kanchanaburi.
This "Dark Temptation C Series" was a hands-on experience at coffee-making with a proper drip technique to make an aromatic mellow java.
Members learned about the top five coffee beans from around the world: The aromatic sweet Blue Mountain from Jamaica, considered by connoisseurs to be the world's best; the medium-dark Tanzania AA Plus Lungi Estate from Africa; the spicy Sumatra Mandheling Grade 1 Dry Process Lake Toba from Indonesia; and VPP from Chiang Mai, voted Asia Pacific's top bean at the Specialty Coffee Association of America's 2008 Roasters Guild Coffee of the Year.
All participants got a chance to mix their own coffee blend to take home.
