Self-reliance can save you money, and it may even help you to save lives. If your car won't start, if you get lost or if you need to perform CPR or provide first aid, do you know what to do?
"50 things everyone should know how to do" is a comprehensive collection of links to valuable resources that can teach you many skills. These are not arcane or specialised skills, but fundamental capabilities - as reflected by the title of this blog by Marc and Angel at http://www.marcandangel.com/2008/06/02/50-things-everyone-should-know-how-to-do.
The topics range from self-improvement (handling a job interview, taking useful notes or being a good listener) to safe computing (security best practices and protecting personal identity information) to general advice you may never have thought of looking up: How to tell great story or how to avoid a fistfight (and how to win a fist fight or a street fight, if avoidance doesn't work).
The format is simple and no-nonsense, each topic, which is explained in a sentence, is followed by three or four sub-topics that are links to other resources on the web. For example, Topic No. 3 is "Use Google Effectively - Google knows everything. If you're having trouble finding something with Google, it's you that needs help," while the subtopics include "Google Advanced Search Operators" and "20 tips for More Efficient Google Searches". There are links here to other top posts in a similar vein here. Check out and bookmark this site.
