CABINET RESHUFFLE

Ministers await the axe

PRASIT TANGPRASERT

NAKHON RATCHASIMA : Three of the cabinet ministers who are expected to lose their portfolios in the coming reshuffle say they are resigned to their fate.

Tourism and Sports Minister Weerasak Kohsurat, of the Chart Thai party, Deputy Interior Minister Sithichai Kohsurat and Deputy Finance Minister Ranongrak Suwanchawee, both of Puea Pandin, made the admission at a seminar of provincial administration organisation executives in Nakhon Ratchasima yesterday.

Mr Weerasak said he had no idea what the new line-up would be, but he would not try to hold on to his post and would respect Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej's decision.

Mr Samak said on Tuesday at least 10 ministers will be affected by a cabinet shake-up around the end of the month.

Lt Ranongrak said she had done her best as deputy finance minister, but would respect Mr Samak's decision.

A government source said Mr Sithichai and Lt Ranongrak were very likely to be axed from the cabinet under an earlier agreement within the Puea Pandin party.

Their portfolios would be taken over by other members of Puea Pandin.
