ASKA SETS THE SCENE

Japanese artist Aska is giving a concert at Thailand Cultural Centre on Sat, June 21 at 8pm.
Aska, of the famous J-pop duo Chage and Aska, will be performing with the Bangkok Symphony Orchestra (BSO) under the baton of Ikuro Fujiwara in a live concert entitled "ASKA Symphonic Concert Tour: Scene" at Thailand Cultural Centre on Saturday, June 21 at 8pm.

After winning the Yamaha Popular Song Festival, the duo made their debut with Hitorisaki in 1979. Since then, they have released many songs while actively conducting concert tours. Half of their singles were written by Aska.

In late '80s, the Fukuoka-born artist started his solo career with his first single My Mr Lonely Heart. His most well-known song as a solo singer is Hajimari wa Itsumo Ame, a single from his second album. It reached number 2 on Oricon (Japan's best known music charts) and sold over 1,160,000 copies.

As an accomplished composer, he has written many hit songs for Chage and Aska, and also collaborated with many artists, like Richard Marx on Everyday of Your Life (1997).

Aska's work has extended to producing songs for artists like Hikaru-Genji, Na Ying and the late Teresa Teng. In fact, many of his compositions have been sung in different languages and covered by artists like Maxi Priest in 1996 with As You Walk Away.

In 2005, Aska held a nationwide concert tour in Japan featuring renowned composer Takayuki Hattori, and they also conducted an unplugged-style concert tour in Shanghai and Japan late last year.

This year Aska is starting his concert tour again in Asia. Singapore kickstarts his Asian tour followed by dates in Jakarta, Bangkok and China. All of these concerts also feature the respective local philharmonic orchestras of the venue.

Tickets cost 800, 1,200, 1,600, 2,200, 3,000 and 4,000 baht and can be purchased from Thaiticketmajor booths (tel 02-262-3456).
