Chettha's team says ceasefire will work

The third violent attack since Thursday's ceasefire announcement by the Thailand United Southern Underground (Tusu) took place yesterday in Yala's Raman district.
Kuea Choochom, 47, was shot in the torso by a passenger on a motorcycle while he was riding his own motorcycle home.
Two other shootings, also in Yala, took place on Thursday and Friday.
Meanwhile, members of Chettha Thanajaro's team involved in Thursday's ceasefire announcement by three men claiming to be leaders of the insurgency in the southern border provinces insisted the ceasefire was not a hoax.
They asked the public to wait another 30 days to see the results.
A source close to Gen Chettha, the former army chief and now leader of the Ruam Jai Thai Chart Pattana party, said one of the men who announced the ceasefire was a leading member of the southern insurgency.
His group controlled 11 smaller factions under its umbrella, the source said.
The source said the frequency of violent attacks in the deep South had fallen over the past couple of days, so the public should give the process a chance.
Gen Chettha also confirmed he has been engaged in private ceasefire talks with Tusu, and added that no other ranking military officer is behind this effort.
He made the remark in response to a report that Gen Panlop Pinmanee, the former deputy director of the Internal Security Operations Command, had said another high-ranking military officer was behind the ceasefire announcement, and that it was politically motivated.
