An old quarter on the banks of the Chao Phraya, the Bangkok Noi community has witnessed rapid changes to her landscape and demographic features. Tomorrow, a group of civic-minded residents will be organising a special fair to highlight some of the cultural heritage in the area.
The programme will start at 1pm with a cruise down the Bangkok Noi canal. The starting point will be Wat Suwannaram, known for its beautiful mural paintings. The trip will be free but seats are limited so advance reservation is advisable.
Other programmes will include demonstrations of traditional Thai performing arts such as Mae Sri and Wing Mah Kae Bon, poetry recitation during the royal barge ceremony, sword dance and Thai music. At 5pm, Anake Nawigamune will give a lecture on the need to conserve the local knowledge of Bangkok Noi.
