MURDER
PATHUM THANI : An arrested man has admitted he killed a woman and dumped her body in an apartment building's water tank because she stole his methamphetamine pills, police said yesterday.
The dead woman found wrapped in a black plastic bag in the water tank atop the apartment building on Saturday was identified yesterday as Ratri Mandee, 26.
Police said the Chiang Rai woman worked in a karaoke shop in Ayutthaya's Wang Noi district. She did not live in the apartment.
Police made inquiries at all 31 apartments in the building and learned that one resident, Arithat Komolgetrak, 25, had not been seen for several days.
Police went to the address in Wang Noi district that he gave as his hometown address and found his mother. She told police her son phoned her, saying he had killed a woman and asking for money to go on hiding.
His younger brother transferred 500 baht to his bank account on Friday.
Police called the man on his mobile, but he refused to surrender. He said he was already far away, but investigators later caught him in the province. He was charged with attempted murder.
Police said Mr Arithat confessed he had taken the woman to his room on Wednesday. While she was there he discovered his 20 methamphetamine pills were missing. He found the pills in her purse and became so angry he strangled her with a T-shirt.
He thought she just passed out so he left the room and went to work. When he came came back in the evening he found she was dead. He rushed to Talad Tai wholesale market in the Rangsit area, bought a plastic garbage bag, and packed her body in it. He stuffed the body into the tank and fled.
Apartment residents who wondered why the water smelt so bad found the body on Saturday.
