NO-CONFIDENCE DEBATE

Democrats line up 35 speakers

The Democrat party has lined up 35 speakers to grill Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej and seven other ministers in the censure debate tomorrow. The People Power party-led coalition has set aside tomorrow afternoon and Wednesday for the debate. The Democrats have demanded more time.

Democrat secretary-general Suthep Thaugsuban said teams of Democrat MPs would target individual ministers.

The first target is Mr Samak. Democrat leader Abhisit Vejjajiva will launch the attack and nine teams of Democrats will elaborate on nine points of censure against the prime minister.

Speakers include Democrat adviser Banyat Bantadtan, party deputy leader Jurin Laksanavisit and deputy secretary-general Sukhumbhand Paribatra.

Foreign Minister Noppadon Pattama will be questioned on the Preah Vihear temple issue, mainly by M.R. Sukhumbhand and Democrat executive Peeraphan Saleerattavipak.

Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Surapong Suebwonglee and Deputy Prime Minister and Commerce Minister Mingkwan Sangsuwan will then face economic questions from Democrat deputy secretary-general Korn Chatikavanij and deputy leader Trairong Suwannakhiri.

Transport Minister Santi Prompat and Deputy Transport Minister Songsak Thongsri will be taken to task over the planned leasing of 6,000 buses by the BMTA. This will be led by Democrat list-MP Col Vinai Sompong, Democrat deputy secretary-general Thaworn Senniam and Nakhon Nayok MP Charnchai Issarasenarak.

Justice Minister Sompong Amornwiwat will be questioned about the allegedly unfair transfer of a senior official by Mr Peeraphan, MPs Suwaroj Phalang and Sakolthee Phatthiyakul.

Mr Suthep will lead the attack on Interior Minister Chalerm Yubamrung, along with Nakhon Si Thammarat MP Thepthai Senapong and list-MP Chamni Sakdiset. Democrat chief adviser Chuan Leekpai will also join the debate.

''We have done our homework well,'' Mr Suthep said.The highlights would be the attacks on Mr Samak and Mr Chalerm.
