Simple flower arrangements for the home

RATCHADAWAN SURIYANON

Thailand is a country with plenty of floral beauty, but many of us have difficulties in trying to find creative ways of arranging the flowers to beautify our homes.

Through a series of columns, I will guide you to decoration and arranging the wondrous flowers that we find in our country. From complicated arrangements, like those done at weddings, parties and in hotels, to the simplest arrangement in living rooms or bedrooms, I will show and tell all.

In the first of the series, I will explain a simple table decoration using the most common flowers available, such as roses and orchids, to create something that can be put on the dining table, or in the drawing room.

A combination of roses and orchids can create an ambience of sweetness and warmth in the family while showing the talent of the florist.

- Requirements:

5!white roses!

1 to 2 stalks!purple orchids!

1 to 2 stalks!white orchids!

Bunch!decorative green leaves of at least two types!

Floral foam

Decorative bird

Method:

- Cut the foam in a way to fit the container, and soak it in water (remember to cut it a little bigger as foam would shrink once it is soaked).

- Put the foam in the container.

- Use the green leaves to cover the foam so that it is not visible and to create greenery around the base.

- Take the white roses and insert them in four different directions, while making sure there is enough room to place other flowers, as well. Insert the fifth rose in the centre of the foam.

- Insert the white and purple orchids and then fill the remaining space with the green leaves.

- Place a decorative bird around the container in order to make it look more lively.
