Uraiwan shrugs off criticism court case makes her unfit for cabinet

Labour Minister Uraiwan Thienthong has shrugged off criticism it would be inappropriate for her to be part of the new cabinet because she is one of the politicians implicated in the digit lottery court case.

The case is now being tried in the Supreme Court's Criminal Division for Holders of Political Positions.

The other serving ministers implicated in the same case, Finance Minister Surapong Suebwonglee and Deputy Transport Minister Anurak Jureemart, have made it clear they will not be part of the cabinet of new Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat.

Mrs Uraiwan, who is likely to remain labour minister, said she had done nothing wrong.

Also, the Council of State had confirmed that she could continue to serve as a cabinet minister, she said.

However, she would step down if the court finds her guilty.
