PAD guard dies from bomb injury

A volunteer guard who suffered brain damage in Saturday's grenade attack on supporters of the People's Alliance for Democracy outside Government House died of his injuries yesterday.

Yutthapong Samerpark, 22, died about 2pm, Ramathibodi hospital director Than Supattharaphan said.

Yutthapong had been on life support at the hospital since Saturday, after shrapnel from a grenade fired from an M79 launcher inflicted irreversible damage to his brain.

The explosion in the early hours of Saturday also injured seven other anti-government demonstrators acting as guards.

PAD co-leader Pibhop Dhongchai led the movement's supporters in observing a minute's silence in Yutthapong's memory. Before his death, Yutthapong had also helped deliver meals to protesters at Government House.

He was the fourth demonstrator to lose his life following the bloody clashes of Oct 7, when PAD supporters trying to block lawmakers from entering parliament for the policies announcement by Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat came under a brutal day-long police assault.
