WiFi to help create a greener Bangkok

Presenters promote the 500,000 free WiFi cards that will be given out under the Green WiFi programme developed by True Corp and the BMA.

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration yesterday joined True Corporation to offer wireless Internet access free of charge under its Green Bangkok WiFi campaign.

The initiative is part of the BMA's Bangkok Green Agenda using wireless Internet technology to reduce energy consumption and help create a sustainable and livable city of the future.

The BMA will give away 500,000 free WiFi cards to the public at more than 50 travel centres and leading department stores.

BMA governor Apirak Kosayodhin said the Bangkok Green Agenda aimed to create a knowledge-based society along with convenience and a safe environment for its residents by introducing wireless Internet access as a substitute for physical travel wherever possible.

The goals of this campaign are to save energy, reduce expenses, and enhance convenience for online access to knowledge and information anytime and anywhere.

Thiti Nantapatsiri, True's managing director for home and consumer solutions and high-speed access, said the company had been chosen to roll out the WiFi network covering more than 400 square kilometres throughout Bangkok.
